Stop motion Animation video clip

Commissioned music video for Papaya Dada, an Ecuadorian cumbia band. The videoclip for “Bomba de Tiempo” was created using modeling clay and stop-motion animation, resulting in a tactile, handcrafted visual world with a playful, rhythmic energy.

I directed and animated the stop-motion music video for “Bomba de Tiempo”, crafted entirely with modeling clay. A key concept was building a custom alphabet that literally grows from nothing: each letter emerges from a blank starting point and evolves frame by frame. To achieve this “from zero” transformation, we used a reverse workflow—designing the final shapes first and animating the process backward so the forms appear to assemble and bloom organically on screen.

Alongside the typography, we sculpted and animated musical instruments in perfect sync with the song’s beat, treating each movement like a percussive hit. Other clay characters and symbols—such as the cat, the heart, and the lips—were modeled and brought to life with the same rhythmic precision. Additional elements, including the Virgin figure and a stylized image of L.A., were adapted and reinterpreted to fit the overall clay universe and the video’s playful, explosive concept.

Between 2015 and 2018, I collaborated with Papaya Dada on multiple projects as their Art Director, shaping a consistent visual identity across different formats and releases. In parallel, I also performed live as a VJ, creating and mixing visuals in real time for the band across 25+ shows in Ecuador, translating the energy of their cumbia into immersive audiovisual sets.

The visual content created for the band’s live shows is still in use 10 years later, continuing to be part of Papaya Dada’s on-stage experience
